Walgreens has a 2 different ways to save!! The biggest program is the Register Rewards Program. The other way to save at Walgreens is by stacking Walgreens store coupons and manufacture coupons to SAVE BIG. I go into more detail about both these money saving methods below in the jargon section.

Walgreens Jargon

WAGs – Walgreens

IVC aka In-Ad Coupons– Instant Value Coupon. These are WAGs coupons that are inside the Monthly Savings Booklet and are also found in the weekly ads WAGs puts out. These coupons can be combined with manufacture coupons to maximize savings!

RR – Register Rewards are similar to the CVS ECB’s where you purchase a certain item or number of items and a register coupon will print out at the end of your order called a Register Reward (RR). The RR is actually a Catalina Coupon and is treated like a manufacture coupon when you pay for your next purchase. Usually, they are valid for 2 weeks but you should always note the expiration date. The specific’s you need to know about Register Rewards are this:

RR’s are not tied to a card as they are at CVS, so you can make a purchase and receive RR’s as many times as you want HOWEVER you cannot roll RR’s. You CANNOT get RR’s for doing a deal and then use the RR’s you just received to pay for the SAME deal again. If you do that, your RR’s will not print the second time. However, you could use a RR that was issued from a different manufacturer and then roll the RR’s between the 2 deals.

Sometimes the computer is programmed incorrectly. If you bought the advertised items and your Register Reward did not print – politely ask to speak to a manager. There are many reasons a Register Reward will not print including paper running out or the Catalina machine being broken or offline. The manager can re-ring the items at another register and they should be able to resolve the issue for you.

Filler Items - While you can pair a Walgreens coupon with a Manufacturers Coupon — You MUST have an equal amount of items and coupons. The In-Ad Coupons from the weekly circulars ONLY are an exception but I always play it safe. Walgreens has MANY items under $1 so if I have 13 items and 15 coupons I will always pick up 2 more items. Too many items make a register BEEP and that is never good!

Catalina – Catalina coupons are put out my a marketing company by the name Catalina. They print at WAGs and also at most major grocery chain stores.I have recieved many high value coupons from this machine that I have been able to combine with Register Rewards. They are limited to 1 type of coupon per transaction at Walgreens so if you did 2 transactions last week and both printed a high value toothpaste coupon you will have to do 2 separate transactions to use both coupons.

B1G1 – Buy 1 Get 1 I will use this term in one of two ways. B1G1 free (when you buy one product, you get another product for free) or B1G1 50% off (when you buy one product, you get another product of equal or lesser value for 50% off).

IP – Internet Printable coupons are coupons that you print off of the internet. I will add a link to these coupons in the scenarios.

MC - Manufacturer’s Coupons are coupons that you find in magazines, your Sunday’s paper, on display in your store, etc… These are coupons that the manufacturer’s themselves issue and come from a variety of sources. I will list the source in my scenario.

RP – Red Plum is a coupon distributor that provides coupon inserts in Sunday’s paper. I will list the date the RP insert was in the paper before I list the RP abbreviation.

SS – SmartSource is a coupon distributor that provides coupon inserts in Sunday’s paper. I will list the date the SS insert was in the paper before I list the SS abbreviation.
P&G (PG)– Proctor and Gamble distribute their own coupon insert in the newspaper generally the first Sunday of the month, but also put out bonus inserts throughout the year. As above I will list the date the P&G insert was in the paper before I list the P&G abbreviation.

Peelies are coupons that are “stuck” onto the product itself.

Stacking is using a Manufacture Coupon and a Walgreens Coupon together!!
