All You Need to Know About CVS:

ExtraCare Rewards is the CVS Customer Rewards program. To attain maximum savings playing the Drugstore Game at CVS you will first and foremost need to sign up for this program by obtaining a CVS ExtraCare Card. You can apply for one online at CVS (it will take about 2 weeks to obtain the card in the mail) or in-store.

Once you have your Extra Care card go back to the CVS website and link your card to your email account. This will automatically generate a $4 off $20 Coupon for you to use and add you to the email list so CVS can email you more coupons and promotion information!

Next — plan your scenarios. I will list the best scenarios I find here weekly but you will also want to check out the ad yourself too in-case I missed something or you need something I don’t. You can also preview the ads in the drugstore section of Slickdeals. The weekly threads lay out the entire ad and scenario possibilities for you! If you are in Southern California keep in mind that the So Cal ad sometimes is different from the nationwide ad. Sometimes So Cal is missing deals — and sometimes we have extra deals! You never know!!

Your first trip will cost you the most money out of pocket (OOP) but after that you will learn to reuse (roll) your ECBs so that your OOP is very minimal going forward. ECBs can be used the same as cash except on gift cards and any items prohibited by law. Please note you will not get any change from these so you need to spend the entire ECB to maximize your savings.

Before you leave the store check your receipt and verify all ECBs have been credited to your card correctly. It is much easier to correct errors while you are still in store, but if you can’t the customer service department at the CVS website is always very helpful.

CVS Jargon

ECB – or better known as Extra Care Bucks. This is the most important abbreviation when referring to CVS. ECB’s are the “CVS dollars” that print out at the end of your receipt after buying a product that will earn you ECB’s. ECB’s can be used in your CVS store just like regular money. NOTE: ECB’s usually expire 14 to 30 days after they are printed.

CRTCash Register Tape CVS will issue you coupons based on previous purchases with your card and these will print after your ECBs on your receipt. These are for use on your next shopping trip!

BOGOBuy One Get One I will use this term in one of two ways. BOGO free (when you buy one product, you get another product for free) or BOGO 50% off (when you buy one product, you get another product of equal or lesser value for 50% off).

IPCInternet Printable Coupons are coupons that you print off of the internet. I will add a link to these coupons in the scenarios.

MCManufacturer’s Coupons are coupons that you find in magazines, your Sunday’s paper, on display in your store. These coupons are put out by the manufacturer’s themselves issue and come from a variety of sources. I will list the source in my scenario.

RPRed Plum is a coupon distributor that provides coupon inserts in Sunday’s paper. I will list the date the RP insert was in the paper before I list the RP abbreviation.

SSSmartSource is a coupon distributor that provides coupon inserts in Sunday’s paper. I will list the date the SS insert was in the paper before I list the SS abbreviation.

P&GProctor and Gamble distribute their own coupon insert in the newspaper generally the first Sunday of the month, but also put out bonus inserts throughout the year. As above I will list the date the P&G insert was in the paper before I list the P&G abbreviation.

Peelies are coupons that are “stuck” onto the product itself.

SCStore Coupons are coupons that are issued by a store that can only be used at that store.

Stacking is using more then one type of coupon or incentive on any one product.

I have a quick question about ECB’s. I got about 4 of them today totalling about $18.00. Next Time I go to CVS, can I use all of them in 1 transaction or do I have to use them in 4 different transactions?
Thanks!

Leigh, You can use all of the ECB’s at the same time granted you spend $18 PRE-tax. The ECB’s should always spend like cash with few restrictions on things like alcohol and tobacco.
